Kate Stewart is an artist deconstructing the
relationship between mythologised landscape, technology and the human psyche. To create her work, Stewart sources images in
art and popular culture of idealised or romanticised natural landscapes. Employing
mechanical processes of scanning, computer manipulation and photocopying, as
well as traditional image making techniques such as screen-printing and
painting, she distorts and fragments her images, reconfiguring them in densely
layered screens. Through these strange, unsettling hybrids, Stewart critiques
the increasing distance technology imposes on our access to these spaces and
ideals.
