Heidi Holmes’ practice involves a
rigorous, empirical compilation of documentation and cataloguing of the ambient
everyday, subjecting the banal aspects of her life- including her somatic data,
her interpersonal relationships, and her state of mind- to intense scrutiny and
analysis. Materialising as sculptures,
installations, scripts, drawings, sound works, videos and photographs, Holmes’
works offer a challenge to the increasingly prevalent view of selfhood, aligned
with societal and community expectations of exceptionality and individuality.
Holmes’ humorous, deeply self-exploratory and self-depreciative works persist
with the questions, “Who am I?” and, “I am just like you (Aren’t I?).”
Emerging artist, Heidi Holmes is
currently undertaking a Bachelor of Fine Art (Painting) at The Victorian
College of the Arts, which she will complete in 2012. Prior to this, Holmes
completed a Diploma of Visual Art at RMIT.
In 2011 Holmes’ was the winner of
the Toyota Undergraduate Award and a recipient of a Melbourne University Arts
Union Grant.
Recent projects include a solo show at The Library Artspace, a
two person show George Paton Gallery and group shows at No No Gallery, Anna
Pappas Gallery and Rear View Gallery.
