Sally Marshall’s art practice explores examples of artificiality in contemporary society, in particular pop culture and fashion trends. Drawing upon the imagery and allure of pop music and gossip magazines – Sally’s work (predominantly sculpture, video and painting- with a pallet of fluoros, bright block colours and animal print) reflects the false sense of connection that is created through these media sources.
Recent sculptural works focus on the use of patterns and textures from nature which are artificially imitated and used as pieces of design, fashion or novelty- forging amity with the natural world. These works extend the idea of the false familiarity explored in her celebrity/fan based works.
